I was driving west through Texas on a bright, spring day
My Buick lumbering slowly down the highway when suddenly I spied
An armadillo sitting on a rock wearing a tiny cowboy hat
So I stopped the car and wandered over, the armadillo said “how do you do”
Well I’m fine, and may I say I truly admire your tiny cowboy hat
Why, thank you said the armadillo, and I quite like your shiny snakeskin boots
We conversed for an hour or so until I finally had to bid adieu

Jackie hit me with an empty bottle of 18-year-old whiskey on the head
I said what’d you do that for, she said I only wanted to see if you were dead
Well I didn’t wanna give her the satisfaction of knowing she was right
So I loaded up the Buick and drove away into the starry night
Later I saw Jackie on the highway, I said do you need a ride?
See turned her gaze towards me, and with the eyes of a child started to cry
