OLD ROCK STAR
I guess I’m never gonna be a rock star.
When your hair turns grey that’s how things are.
What’ll I do with my guitars?
Maybe they’ll play me on NPR.
Nobody wants to hear an old guy’s song.
But I’m not ready to move along.
I’ve still got something else to say,
so sit your young-ass down.
Oughta hang up these rock star dreams.
I’m getting too fat for skinny jeans.
My fans they say I’m not the same
since I traded my cocaine for Rogaine.
Nobody wants to hear an old guy’s song.
But I’m not ready to move along.
I’ve still got something else to say,
so sit your young-ass down.
Yeah I know there’s McCartney, Townsend and Jagger.
But they’ve been superstars for 50 years.
And when they go on tour they’ve got roadies and masseurs.
And they’re not sleeping on someone’s couch in Lima.
When I’m up here on the stage
I never worry ‘bout my age.
‘Cause I can still sing like a bird.
Just can’t remember all the…words.
Nobody wants to hear an old guy’s song.
But I’m not ready to move along.
I’ve still got something else to say,
So sit your synthesizer-lovin’,
lo-fi Reggatone dub-steppin’
Instagramin’, multi-taskin’,
vaping, streaming, coffee-guzzlin’,
gender-fluid, chillin’, young-ass down.
Hey you kids, get off my lawn!
(Yeah, I'm talking to you)

I'm Not Letting Go
03:12

I'M NOT LETTING GO
So you found my secret stash
Of swimsuit issue magazines
You threw my poster in the trash
The one of Katniss Everdeen
You ask me if I’m bored with you
Are we running out of steam
You wonder where my 6-pack went
It’s in the trash with Everdeen
With a dozen other things
I’m not lettin’ go, I’m just changing my grip
I know what you’re thinking, don’t worry ‘bout it
I’m not lettin’ go, I’m just changing my grip
I’m not lettin’ go, I’m not lettin’ go,
I won’t let go of you
I don’t blame you, not one bit
I wasn’t always straight with you
When you were into Robin Thicke
I lied and said I like him too
But even stars in the sky
Change their color thru the night
But no one ever stops to think
Is this wrong or is this right?
Can't we just enjoy the sight?
I’m not lettin’ go, I’m just changing my grip
I know what you’re thinking, don’t worry ‘bout it
I’m not lettin’ go, I’m just changing my grip
I’m not lettin’ go, I’m not lettin’ go,
I won’t let go of you
I’m not lettin’ go, I’m just changing my grip
I know what you’re thinking, don’t worry about it
I’m not lettin’ go, I’m just changing my grip
I’m not lettin’ go, I’m not lettin’ go,
I won’t let go of you

I See Magic

I SEE MAGIC
I was driving west through Texas on a bright, spring day
My Buick lumbering slowly down the highway when suddenly I spied
An armadillo sitting on a rock wearing a tiny cowboy hat
So I stopped the car and wandered over, the armadillo said “how do you do”
Well I’m fine, and may I say I truly admire your tiny cowboy hat
Why, thank you said the armadillo, and I quite like your shiny snakeskin boots
We conversed for an hour or so until I finally had to bid adieu
Me with a tiny cowboy hat, and him with shiny snakeskin boots
I’ve seen the oceans glow
I’ve seen the night sky all a-blaze
And I see magic everywhere
Jackie hit me with an empty bottle of 18-year-old whiskey on the head
I said what’d you do that for, she said I only wanted to see if you were dead
Well I didn’t wanna give her the satisfaction of knowing she was right
So I loaded up the Buick and drove away into the starry night
Later I saw Jackie on the highway, I said do you need a ride?
See turned her gaze towards me, and with the eyes of a child started to cry
I’ve seen the fallen rise
I’ve seen the seeds of the divine
And I see magic everywhere
HARP SOLO
Morning in the desert when the air is still and shadows paint the land
I can see my spirit in the rocks, and saguaros, and sand
There’s something in these people and these canyons that always set me free
But the more I try to comprehend and understand the less I see
I’ve walked the fabled steps
I’ve peered into the blinding sun
And I see magic, magic every-where
I see magic everywhere
I see magic everywhere
I see magic everywhere
HARP OUTRO

A Piece of Me

A PIECE OF ME
Steal my heart
Light my eyes
Take my breath away with your sigh
Write my song
Tame my pride
Turn my world on its side
You’re wise beyond my years
You’re kind to all my fears
I offer all you see
I only ask for you to leave a piece of me
SOLO
Break me from my endless sleep
I give to you my soul to keep
With no strings, no legal shroud
You’re free to twist my head around
You’re wise beyond my years
You’re kind to all my fears
I offer all you see
I only ask for you to leave a piece of me
For you to leave a piece of me

Misery When You're Gone
02:54
|

MISERY WHEN YOU'RE GONE
Break a leg
Fannie Mae
When you coming back home to stay?
I’m misery when you’re gone
Misery when you’re gone
Dog won’t bark
Jump the shark
Car’s in gear, but stuck in park
I’m misery when you’re gone
Misery when you’re gone
Chew the fat
Don’t look back
Time to grab your goin’-home hat
I’m misery when you’re gone
Misery when you’re gone
Cellophane
Frogwash rain
Hope it doesn’t leave a stain
I’m misery when you’re gone
Misery when you’re gone
(INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE)
Say the word
Don’t have a bird
Penny short
Last resort
Truth or dare
Not nice to stare
Bought the farm
No foul no harm
Tongue in cheek
Up the creek
Gussied up
Dixie cup
Bumblebees
As thick as thieves
Prickly pear
Or leisure wear
Art nouveau
Oh ho-dee-do
Where’s the fire I don’t know
I’m misery when you’re gone (3x)

15 Miles to Tulsa
04:18
|

15 MILES TO TULSA
15 miles to Tulsa
But a million miles to her heart
I never stopped believing in us
But she never knew when to start
11 miles to Tulsa
Her mother said come right away
The man she is marrying is no good for her
And she’ll be his by the end of the day
Well the world doesn’t need another sad song
With heart-broken drama, where right becomes wrong
No the world doesn’t need another sad song
But every time she falls in love, there’s a new one
7 more miles to Tulsa
I can still feel the heat of her lips
And now I’m supposed to act like a friend
I don’t think I’m ready for this
I see the lights of Tulsa
The exit is 2 miles ahead
I can forgive the things that she did
But never the things that she said
(SOLO)
Well the world doesn’t need another sad song
With heart-broken drama, where right becomes wrong
No the world doesn’t need another sad song
But every time she falls in love, there’s a new one
Here comes the exit to Tulsa
On the right is the road to her door
And straight is the highway that
leads out of down
Back to the safety of shore (3X)

MISS BY AN INCH
Sergeant Terry took a bullet on the front line
The medic at the hospital said “you will survive”
“If the bullet had been one inch closer you would be dead”
But instead of being grateful Terry smiled and said:
A miss by an inch is as good as a mile
A miss by an inch is as good as a mile
Lindsey dreamed of swimming on the Olympic team
She practiced every afternoon building up speed
But on the day of the try-out, she lost at the line
“I’m proud of you,” her mother said, but Lindsey just sighed.
A miss by an inch is as good as a mile
A miss by an inch is as good as a mile
And it’s not always right, and it’s not always fair
Then one day you’ll find yourself walking on air
Fate can be fickle, there’s no denying
That’s the price we pay when we’re
Walking this close, walking this close
Walking this close to the line
Alexander built the largest bridge in the world
One year later it collapsed, mangled and curled
Investigators found a tiny crack that had spread
Alex thought to himself as he cowered in bed:
A miss by an inch is as good as a mile
A miss by an inch is as good as a mile
Little Nellie headed to the grocery store
The total at the checkout was two-hundred and four
The next person was the one-millionth customer in line
A year of free groceries. Nellie took it in stride.
A miss by an inch is as good as a mile
A miss by an inch is as good as a mile
And it’s not always right, and it’s not always fair
Then one day you’ll find yourself walking on air
Fate can be fickle, there’s no denying
That’s the price we pay when we’re
Walking this close, walking this close,
Walking this close to the line
